Organizing Postcard Collection

Like many of you I have a huge and wonderful collection of postcards sent to me by friends and pen pals over the years. I have struggled with how to best organize and keep my collection together in some kind manner that doesn’t require a lot of space or a huge filing system.

After a few attempts that included shoe boxes or some kind of scrap book, I came across this idea on Pinterest that use the giant split rings. Genius I thought! This allows for many cards to be stacked together in an organized and condensed way. I can easily see the front and the back of the postcards for reference. Best part of all it was easy and quick to do.

The only downside is that yes, you need to put holes in the postcards and I know for some people that isn’t acceptable. For me, the trade off was the convenience and speed of this application. I know the holes might seem like a bad idea but for me, it is the message and energy from my pen pal that means the most. I don’t think they will mind if I punch holes.

Postcard collection organized with split rings

The only supplies I used was a two hole punch, 2 3” split rings and some dividers. I found the two hole punch and the dividers at the Goodwill and the 3” split rings came from Amazon.

I like using dividers to help keep the postcards organized. I separate them by season as well as some of my favourites and close friends vs. people from Postcrossing. I really like how this system works.
Hope you find this helpful.
